The Boswell Ground Game

There has been a lot of talk about Ed Fallon's volunteer base, mostly because that is all his campaign can afford at the moment.   However the efforts of Boswell's ground game should not be overlooked.  According to FEC reports, not only does Boswell have a significant amount of money to fight the Republicans in November, but he has more boots on the ground.

The Boswell campaign has been working hard to continue to engage Democrats in the primary and involving new people into the political process.  Take a look at this article from the Des Moines Register:

“However, requests for absentee ballots, an early indicator of voter interest, among Democrats in Polk County were running ahead of requests in 2006, the result of a push by U.S. Rep. Leonard Boswell.”

In this historic election year, with an impressive organization like Leonard Boswell's, we can make sure Iowa turns blue again come November.

A Progressive Democrat Wrongfully Under Attack

A Bush Democrat?  Is there even such a thing?   How could those within our Party attack a man who has stood with us for years?  The honorable man who has rode through the tough times as our lone Democrat and now is the leader in our congressional delegation? The man who is one of the most powerful Members of Congress in Washington?

Now I am no fan of Washington politics, but the truth is you need influence to get the job done.  Congressman Boswell knows how to get the job done and will continue to get the job done.  Why should we even think about contesting an honorable Democrat like Leonard Boswell when right in our backyard, Rep. Steve King is, well, being Steve King.

There is another reason — a few days ago I saw Leonard Boswell was awarded an “A” rating from the Drum Major Institute for Public Policy. No its not a Bush think tank, its a PROGRESSIVE think tank dedicated supporting and expanding the middle class and creating a more equitable society.

By attacking those within our Party who have been with us and fought for us for years is simply dirty politics — the politics that is looked down upon, the politics that divides us rather than unites us.   Let's not waste our time attacking our own and spend it more wisely looking to expand our majority in the Hawkeye State.

Depose the King

It seems as though the last few days the media has done a pretty good job attacking King for his comments about Barack Obama, especially in publishing a number of letters to the editor completely lambasting him — justifiably so.

But can we finally depose the King?

Do his divisive remarks mobilize his base or will they finally send him off the edge of th cliff.  Sadly it seems as though he has enough of a base vote in Western Iowa to be safe.

Wit Iowa turning bluer and a sure presidential coattail effect (Obama with Independents and Clinton doing well in Western Iowa, this could become a competitive race.  Keep your eyes on Ron Hubler (excuse the horrific website) or any other Dem who jumps in.  Because like many of the surprising races in '06 this could shock them all and we can finally take the fifth district crown from the King.
