Working 4 Working Americans (W4WA) has a new ad up in Iowa. The ad talks about the Maytag plant closing and offshoring jobs. It praises John Edwards' plan to cut tax breaks for offshoring workers.
W4WA is a non-federal political organization under Section 527 of the Internal Revenue Code. It is supported by members of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters.
The W4WA has launched an advertising campaign that exposes the damage done to American workers by free trade agreements. They are running ads in Iowa media markets, and plan to run ads in Illinois, New York, Roll Call, The Hill, and other outlets in the near future.
There is video up after the fold.
First, a little about W4WA.
The worries and concerns of hard-working Americans have a new voice that will draw attention to their kitchen table issues-Working 4 Working Americans (W4WA). The non-partisan organization is committed to promoting solutions to issues that threaten the American way-of-life such as uncontrolled trade practices, dangerous products from China, skyrocketing healthcare costs, and tax breaks for job offshoring.

“The political world is focused on Iowa right now and so is W4WA,” says W4WA Executive Director William Luddy. “We want everyone to remember that two months ago Maytag closed its plant in Newton, Iowa, and nearly 2,000 workers lost their jobs. This economic tsunami was caused by all the things we are highlighting and it's a story being told in town after town right now.”
“Those who opposed NAFTA in the '90s warned of tremendous job losses. If anything, we underestimated the extent of the impact. Now Congress has passed the Peru Free Trade Agreement and President Bush is getting ready to sign it. And more trade deals are in the works. W4WA is committed to a well-informed democracy that understands how politicians sabotage communities and don't promote prosperity with free trade deals,” says Luddy.

Here's their website: http://www.w4wa.org/
And here's the advertisement. Perfectly legal, because it is not coordinated. It's a damn good ad:
By the way, the Carpenters Union endorsed John Edwards in September.
Douglas J. McCarron, General President of UBC, introduces John Edwards
at a carpenters rally in Las Vegas, Nev. on October 20, 2007:
“He stands with us because John is one of us.”

This is a great ad!
Nice to see Edwards has so much support in Iowa—from working people, no less.

Thanks pioneer!
This shows that the spending limits for Iowa will not be a problem. There are 527s that will run ads also.

Yeah, great, kind of missing the point of public financing, no?

All I mean is
I’m glad Edwards has committed himself to doing nothing for several months until the general and dramatically increasing the influence of 527’s on our politics.

which markets in Iowa
I assume Des Moines, because that’s the one that reaches the Newton area.
But does anyone know whether this ad will air in Waterloo, Cedar Rapids, Quad Cities or Dubuque?

FYI--I just heard a radio ad
promoting Edwards, paid for by the Alliance for a New America. It was running on the classic rock station in Des Moines, which has a big audience of people between ages 30 and 60.
