Now that almost all Iowa precincts have reported, I’ve enclosed more detailed results from the four Congressional races after the jump. All numbers come from this page on the Iowa Secretary of State’s website.

the congressional races
IA-01: Lange’s 15 min is now up.
IA-02: Archer is no Miller-Meeks. She is the only good candidate I’ve seen the GOP run against a Dem incumbent in eastern IA.
IA-03: Somehow, I feel Boz deserved better than this end to his career. Have fun with Latham.
IA-04: What is there to say? This district was never a good fit. I wonder how she feels about her county-schoolchildren now. Perhaps she’s enjoying a multilayer salad for lunch today. She would not have found success in IA-03, either. This is one of those campaigns where you feel for the volunteers but roll your eyes at those who “helped” spend all the money she was able to raise. “Strategic Adviser — Vilsack campaign” is not something I’d want on my CV.

The Future of IA-3?
So who do we have with a reasonable chance in 2014 in the 3rd district?
smithames Wed 7 Nov 3:49 PM
no one
especially not in a midterm. Democrats went after Latham in the old IA-04 in 2002, 2006 and 2008–lost big every time.
desmoinesdem Wed 7 Nov 4:55 PM
But John Norris was the only plausible opponent.

How about
Janet Petersen?

IA-3
I would support Janet Peterson but I think you need someone who can talk agriculture and appease Polk County Dems at the same time. I tend to agree with mirage and dmd that no one would be particularly successful against Latham, but you want a strong candidate on the ground who can help drive up turnout and help with some of those swingy Iowa House and Senate districts.

I love Janet Petersen
and would like to see her run for higher office someday. This configuration of the district is not a good fit for her. She can become a great leader in the Iowa Senate, though.

Ed Fallon?
smithames Wed 7 Nov 8:19 PM
Fallon
If it keeps Ed off the air for some time so he can stop implying that pro-life candidates for County Sheriff are going to inflict their personal views on their constituents. I am all for it.
Don’t ask me though, I’m biased against Fallon.

no way
I doubt he will run for office again, and this district would be terrible for him.

IA 4
Vilsack had a lot of money nut was poorly advised by her east coast consultants imho. She was trying to win with media and avoid taking any controversial positions. I would like to see a full-throated populist like Tom Harkin take on King, with some money behind him or her. Tom has won in some of the counties that Christie lost.
2laneia Wed 7 Nov 11:59 PM
we need Harkin
running the Senate HELP committee and pushing filibuster reform. I don’t know who would be the right person to take on King. Very tough district.

Someone from the State house/senate?
Helen Miller? Daryl Beall? Lisa Heddens? Maybe a win is a long shot, but with King’s mouth working against him it’s worth a shot. Plus being able to field a competitive candidate will help state races.
smithames Thu 8 Nov 6:03 AM
Not Tom Harkin
“like Tom Harkin” + money. A populist message instead of the mush that I heard from Vilsack.
2laneia Thu 8 Nov 10:53 AM
got it
Can’t think of anyone off the top of my head who fits that bill, though.
