Douglas Burns has the story at Iowa Independent: Joe Trippi’s consulting firm will be raising money and crafting media messages for Rob Hubler, the Democratic candidate running against Congressman Steve King.
The fifth district is the most Republican in Iowa, but by no means is it out of reach for Hubler.
Big upsets happen in big landslide years, and that’s what this year is shaping up to be.
Hiring Trippi will help Hubler put this race on the map for Washington, D.C.-based groups that could help defeat King, who is reviled by many progressives.
UPDATE: Don’t miss 2laneIA’s diary on this development at Daily Kos.
I’ve added a press release from the Hubler campaign after the jump.

Joe Trippi signs on as media consultant
for Rob Hubler congressional campaign
COUNCIL BLUFFS – Joe Trippi, a nationally-recognized consultant who helped lead the internet revolution in American politics, will be the primary media consultant for the Rob Hubler for Congress campaign, it was announced by the Hubler campaign.
Hubler, Democratic candidate for Congress in Iowa’s 5th district, said that Joe Trippi & Associates will advise his campaign on internet strategy and message development in addition to producing broadcast media ads.
“Our campaign has begun to attract national interest and support on the internet and Joe Trippi’s counsel is sure to help us increase our visibility and fundraising through the internet,” said Hubler. “We are delighted that Joe and his staff will be working with us as we offer western Iowans new leadership and real representation in the House of Representatives.
“The American people are hungry for change, but more of the same divisive rhetoric and embarrassing headlines by Washington politicians like Steve King is not the answer,” said Trippi. “If we want real change, we need grassroots candidates like Rob Hubler who will always put the people’s interests first. From creating new, good-paying jobs right here in Iowa to lowering gas prices, Rob Hubler is a new kind of leader who will deliver real solutions and real change for Iowa and America.”
Hubler, a Navy veteran who is a former teacher and retired Presbyterian minister, is completing this week a 32-county tour of the district, meeting with voters at county fairs and other events. “It’s clear that Republicans and Independents are just as hungry for a change in leadership as Democrats,” said Hubler. “Voters want change and understand that nothing will change until we change Congress,” he added.
