Reflecting on Resilience: Alex Kor to share parents' Holocaust story at ISU

The Holocaust is a profound chapter in human history, and its lessons are more relevant than ever. On April 7, at 6 PM, Dr. Alex Kor will deliver a deeply personal talk, “Reflecting on My Parents’ Holocaust Journeys: Finding Forgiveness and Celebrating My Family’s Legacy,” at Iowa State University‘s Great Hall in the Memorial Union.

Dr. Kor’s late parents, Michael and Eva Mozes Kor, endured unimaginable suffering during the Holocaust, each surviving time in Nazi concentration camps. Michael spent four harrowing years in captivity before being liberated by U.S. troops. Eva and her twin sister, Miriam, were subjected to Josef Mengele’s notorious medical experiments at Auschwitz. Despite their trauma, both Michael and Eva embodied resilience and unwavering optimism.

Dr. Kor’s connection to his parents’ history runs deep. He accompanied his mother to Auschwitz over 20 times while she shared her story with the world, and he’s helped preserve his family’s history through the CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center.

Dr. Kor’s book, A Blessing, Not a Burden: My Parents’ Remarkable Holocaust Story & My Fight to Keep Their Legacy Alive, offers a thorough account of his parents’ extraordinary lives and the profound impact they had on him. Through the lens of his parents’ resilience, Dr. Kor’s talk will highlight timeless lessons on forgiveness, remembrance, and the enduring significance of family legacy.

  • lessons of 1930's Germany

Hope there is a good turnout for this event! What’s incredible is how many have lost the lessons of what occurred when good people do nothing. The more that’s revealed about Biden’s senility and the collusion between the media and White House staff that history will not look kindly at the Biden-Harris tenure. Shades of blind loyalty to “da fuhrer” spilled over to Biden-Harris and the constant lying and denials. Endless denials of Hunter’s laptop and pardons and kickbacks. Absolutely chilling and frightening this occurred in our country.

  • Chilling, Absolutely!

    Then . . .

    Historically low unemployment

    Substantial economic growth.

Declining deficits from Trump administration highs.

Best post-pandemic economic recovery among western nations.

    Growth in manufacturing.

    Financial markets strong.

    Reliable government services.

Strong international alliances to help keep Americans safe.

    Now . . .

    Declining financial markets.

    No confidence in government services.

Lawless actions requiring intervention by the courts.

    Choosing Russia over NATO.

Western democracies no longer trust American government.

Public health practices being abandoned at home and abroad.

    Pardoning admitted and convicted criminals.

    Really ModerateDem . . .

Your Fox News talking points became boring months ago.

  • Chilling indeed

Five-bell alarms are going off all over the globe in regard to climate change, and Trump has made it clear that he is hostile to any effort to try to reduce it. I can only imagine the nickname this will earn Trump voters when children today are old enough to realize what was done to them and their future when Trump was elected.
