Yesterday's Burlington Hawkeye had a story that Gene Fraise will not seek re-election in 2012:
Friase decides not to seek eighth term
Sen. Fraise is 79 years old, and he has been in the Senate for 26 years. Before that, he was a Lee County Supervisor. Fraise has been known for his work on criminal justice and education.
One Repulican has announced that he will run for this seat – Lee County Supervisor Larry Kruse.

thanks for the tip
There should not be trouble recruiting a strong Democratic candidate in that district. It has a Democratic voter registration advantage of about 3,500. On the other hand, it includes some of the highest pockets of unemployment.

I should add
that we’re talking about the new Senate district 42. Here’s a map (pdf file).

I'm on the Lee County Central Committee
I think we should recruit a candidate from Henry County if we can so they would be able to pick off GOP votes based on personal friendships that they have already developed.
