Marek is strong for district

I take exception to the idea that members of the “six pack” should be challenged in a primary.  It seems to me that a more productive approach would be to target republicans.  I have know Mr. Marek for thrity years and having run for an open seat against Ms. Griener in 1992 I am quite familar with what it takes for a democrat to win in Washington county.  Mr. Marek posses the qualities to be elected in this county and it is doubtful that anyone running “to the left of him” would win.  His record on supporting fundemental issues important to labor (extending unemployment, creating jobs through bonds, etc) are critical to the well being of Iowa.  To gamble this seat when there are so many other opportunties is foolish.

  • as I have written before

I would prioritize primary challenges to Democrats in safe districts and leave Larry Marek alone.

I can’t say that I would donate any money to re-elect Marek or volunteer for him if I lived near his district, but I wish him well.

Frankly, I think he would have a better chance of re-election if he had done more for the people who helped him win the first time, but those are his decisions to make, and we’ll all see how it works out for him in 2010.

  • Johnson County

I am really glad that Mr. Marek replace Sandy Greiner as Washington county’s state rep.  But he got a lot of donations from Johnson county (including some from me) and that money will not flow as freely as long as he votes with the Republicans on key issues.

In the next election cycle, I am a lot more likely to throw my support to Francis Thicke and Bob Krause.

  • You are real close on this one Terry.

When Larry ran for office the first time with no record, everyone thought he had the qualities to get elected.  with a little help from Obama he got just enough vote to win.

Now he has a record to run against that shows the true Larry Marek.  Larry was very close to voting with the Democrats on all the labor bills.  If it wasn’t for the pressure from the Republicans from Washington County he would have voted with them.

If Larry moves farther to the left he will lose for sure.  I would bet that Larry does not even run again, from the comments that Jan has made in the community tha I have heard they are not happy.

It won’t matter when Steve Burgmeier wins house seat 90.  Larry will go from the swing vote to the tie vote.
