When I wrote about John McCain’s tv ad mocking Barack Obama as “The One,” it didn’t occur to me that “The One” might be code for “the antichrist” to some people.
But apparently there has been some chatter in certain circles about Obama’s similarity to the antagonist of the apocalyptic “Left Behind” novels.
Fortunately, the authors of those books, Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins, spoke out to set the record straight:
“I’ve gotten a lot of questions the last few weeks asking if Obama is the antichrist,” says novelist Jenkins. “I tell everyone that I don’t think the antichrist will come out of politics, especially American politics.”
“I can see by the language he uses why people think he could be the antichrist,” adds LaHaye, “but from my reading of scripture, he doesn’t meet the criteria. There is no indication in the Bible that the antichrist will be an American.”
Well, that settles it, then.

People take this seriously...
While out canvasing, my wife ran into one person–a Democrat, no less– who believed that Senator Obama was the Antichrist. (Do I capitalize “Antichrist” er… “antichrist”? Or is that showing too much respect?)
What is it about Senator Obama that inspires this creepy speculation? His race? His eloquence? Maybe the combination of the two… dunno.
But they’re out there. Real people, who are authorized to drive cars, own property and sharp knives, believe this rubbish.
Is there any method (or point) of convincing them otherwise? Has anyone had a successful persuasive argument with someone like this?
I’m just curious to know if there was anyone who talked them out of it…

At least I think I have.
I recently spoke to an older woman on this topic who believed that Obama was the Anti-Christ. I played coy and let her explain… Than after words I stated that I felt the same thing about John McCain.
I quoted the Bible loosely saying that “There was a pale horse and the rider that sat on him was death, and hell followed with him”. I than explained that John McCain was this “Pale Horse” and his angry nature and his willingness to use excessive force on any country that did not do exactly what we said (Bomb Bomb Bomb Bomb Bomb Iran, etc.) was proff that John McCain was this “fake uniter” who would bring about the destruction of the world.
