In a rare post not related to Barack Obama, Gordon Fischer put up a press release from Leonard Boswell’s campaign over at Iowa True Blue. (Note to the Boswell campaign: please start sending your press releases to desmoinesdem AT yahoo.com.)

The release notes that the Drum Major Institute for Public Policy recently gave Boswell a 100 percent 90 percent “A” grade for his work on behalf of the middle class. Boswell’s campaign also mentioned that a different group recently named him the most powerful U.S. representative from Iowa, and was ranked the 135th most powerful person among the 435 members of the U.S. House.

Boswell Receives a Grade “A” In His Support of the Middle Class

Today, Congressman Leonard Boswell received an “A” grade from the Drum Major Institute for Public Policy, a non-partisan think tank dedicated to creating innovative and progressive ways to create a more just and equitable society by strengthening and expanding the middle class.

Congressman Boswell has shown his support for middle-class America through cosponsoring bills that increased the minimum wage, reduced the cost of prescription drugs, and expanded healthcare coverage to underprivileged children through State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP).

“I have long been a fighter for the middle class,” said Boswell.  “It is the foundation upon which our economy and our democracy are built.  If the middle class cannot pay their mortgages and send their kids to college, our country will have little chance of competing in an increasingly competitive world.  Supporting and expanding the middle class keeps America strong and the American dream alive.”

This recognition comes on the heels of a report issued by Knowlegis that ranked Boswell as one of the most powerful Members of Congress.  With a ranking of 135 out of the 435, Boswell was in the top third of the most powerful House Members and was the most powerful member from Iowa.  

“It is always an honor to be recognized for one’s work,” said Boswell.  “I will continue to use my position to benefit the people of the third district and the citizens of Iowa.”
