A week or so ago I got another fundraising e-mail from Senator Harkin’s campaign.
Don’t take this the wrong way, because I strongly support and admire Harkin, but the $35 I spent on my ticket to the steak fry in September was the last money he’ll see from me for a while.
When you start the election year with $3.4 million in the bank, and your only declared opponent has $58.07 in the bank, I think my political donations will be more helpful to other Democrats.
As I’ve written before, candidates I plan to support this year include Ed Fallon, Windsor Heights Mayor Jerry Sullivan, who’s running for Iowa House district 59, and Heather Ryan, who is trying to unseat the Republican in Kentucky’s first Congressional district.

I agree
I highly respect Tom Harkin and think he does great work in the Senate. However, I have limited resources and see a ton of Democrats that need support. First term Reps like Elesha Gayman, Tyler Olson, McKinley Bailey all have done an outstanding job and I hope to donate money to them at some point.

He'll pass it on
When they have no opponents, aren’t they able to pass their money on to other candidates who need it?
If so, you can help Harkin increase his power by sending him money. Or you can increase your own power by sending it elsewhere yourself. Wouldn’t it be a shame to have him pass your money on to Boswell?

good point
I don’t know that Boswell will need extra money against Fallon, since he’ll have such a big cash advantage anyway, but you are right, Harkin probably would direct some of his money to Boswell if asked to do so.

Thanks!!
desmoinesdem for the Ryan plug!! We really need all the help we can get down here!! I will blog nationally for your candidates too in return as soon as I study up on them. We fought the Edwards fight together and there is no reason we can’t keep fighting together for the same causes.
By the way, I saw the title and didn’t realize this was an Iowa only blog. I thought it was a heartland blog. I hope the good folks in Iowa don’t mind this Kentuckian stopping by and posting!!
Best wishes desmoinesdem!!

you are welcome to post here!
We have a few other non-Iowans who post from time to time.

Thanks!!
desmoinesdem for the Ryan plug!! We fought the Edwards fight together, and I will study your candidates and include them in my diaries on the blogs I use.
By the way, I misunderstood the title of this blog and didn’t realize it was Iowa-only when I signed up. I hope Iowans won’t mind a western Kentuckian dropping in to post, and if you do I will cancel my account.
Best wishes desmoinesdem!!

Looks like a republican primary?
I keep hearing about this far right candidate who is suppose to be competing for the republican ticket.
I’ve never really heard of him and can’t even remember his name.
Also I was wondering if you could look at William Meyers, who is running for the fourth congressional district and see if you can support him too. We need all the congressional seats we can get.

I'll support the winner of the primary
in the 4th Congressional district. I can’t stand Latham. I don’t plan to choose a candidate in that Democratic primary.
