Ron Paul supporters trying to turn out Democrats

I was knocking on doors in my precinct on Sunday, and I noticed a few Ron Paul brochures stuck in the doors of Democratic households. At first I thought they might be homes where one spouse is a Democrat and the other is a Republican, but checking my list, they seemed to be homes where both residents are registered Ds.

I did not examine the flier closely, so I don't know whether it came from Paul's campaign or from an outside group supporting him.

On Sunday night or Monday night, I got a robocall supporting Paul. The script emphasized that Democrats in Congress have failed to end the war, and none of the Democratic candidates would be able to end the war. It urged me to caucus for Ron Paul because unlike the Democrats, he has always been against the war and would be able to end the war. It also mentioned a few of Paul's other policy positions.

My kids were making too much noise for me to hear the name of the group that paid for the robocall. I did catch the "not authorized by any candidate or any candidate's committee" at the end, so it wasn't the Paul campaign.

This seems like a complete waste of money to me. Are there really a bunch of Democrats who can't find anyone they like in our current field? Even hard-core antiwar Democrats can still caucus for Kucinich if they like.

But maybe I'm wrong and these tactics will persuade a significant number of Democrats to cross over and caucus on the GOP side.

Anyone else get this phone call or leaflet? Do you know any Democrats who plan to caucus for Ron Paul?

but my apartment building got Pauled over the weekend...a little tan & green pamphlet in every door.  It may just be "every door in sight" rather than targeted distribution.

Ron Paul suporters at my door (4.00 / 1)
I had a Ron Paul supporter knock on my door yesterday. There are a group that looked to be about six total going door to door down my street.  These had to be some serious hardcores as it was about 2 degrees and the wind was blowing hard.  I had a nice conversation with one of them and they were only looking to spread the Ron Paul message, distribute literature, and appeal for everyone to caucus regardless of who you support. Overall it was a pleasant experience.

Makes a lot of sense to me (0.00 / 0)
I have voted Democrat for the last 18 years and when I first heard Ron Paul talk on the Colbert Show I went to my computer to find out more about him. Am I not a Democrat or is he just appealing to my true beliefs? I've switched my party affiliation so I can vote for him in the primaries. Maybe you are wrong about these tactics, they worked on me and they'll probably work for others.

    I got the same call... (0.00 / 0)

I've also gotten about a dozen Ron Paul robocalls over the course of the campaign, perhaps because of my age? (30)

I've also seen at least 8 Paul lit pieces in my mailbox.  On top of this, my wife and I, both staunch Dems, also been courted by other Republicans such as Huckabee, Giuliani and McCain.

On Sunday, some kid called me and asked me if I could help "round up some veterans" for a Ron Paul event, to which I replied, "Oh yeah?! Is (Ron Paul supporter) DAVID DUKE going to be there!?!"  And then I hung up.

Perhaps I could have been nicer to the poor kid, but I don't have much patience for candidates supported by white supremecists.

I just had to respond to your comment... (0.00 / 0)
...about white supremists.  This was one measly donation out of thousands from a guy who wanted to draw attention to himself.  ALL of Ron Paul's donations come from INDIVIDUALS, not Big Oil, Big Business or any other special interest.  He's already proven, with his past history (lobbyists don't bother to darken his door), that he's not "for sale" as so many other candidates are. He won't even take federal matching funds (on principle, of course).

In the 4th quarter alone, where Paul raised nearly $20 million, there were over 130,000 donors, including over 107,000 new donors and the average donation was under $90.00.

Don't take my word for it though, check out who owns what candidate here: http://www.opensecrets.org  It's eye-opening!

And besides, this is not about left/right or democrat/republican.  Freedom, real freedom, removes all paradigms.

As for me, give me liberty...

Ron Paul our only hope (0.00 / 0)
Please spend some time and view the multiple videos of Ron Paul found at google or you tube. Not only will you find that he is the opposite of a white supremist but he is the best candidate for you and I. Because of the primary system for choosing candidates it is very important that we all support Ron Paul regardless if we are a democrat or a republican. Please find out if you need to be registered as a republican to vote for him in the primary round of elections as is the case here in california. Please release your fear and open your hearts and minds. Watch the videos educate your self. this election may be our last chance. thank you god bless, Daniel

The fact that he has to even denounce... (0.00 / 0)
The fact that he has to even denounce his extremist friends is reason enough for me.

I think Democrats smart enough to realize that Ron Paul is more than a single issue candidate.  He's okay on the war, but pretty much 19th century on everything else.  He's not going to fool me.

    Not foolin' (0.00 / 0)
IowaCubs, if you look at Ron Paul's record - he's been consistent and unwavering in his message for the past 30 years, so I don't think he's trying to fool you - or anybody else for that matter. :)

    In response to the author's question: (0.00 / 0)
I don't live in Iowa but in Virginia, I do know many self-described hard core democrats who passionately support Paul.  In fact, I organize a meetup group of 300+ Ron Paul supporters consisting of all ages, races and all parts of the political spectrum; from right-wing evangelical Christians to far left card-carrying Greens and everything in-between (it's a wonder to behold!).  I personally am a libertarian or minarchist.  It's the message of Freedom and returning our beloved country to its roots: that is, a representative government of, by and for We the People.

For many, the war issue brought people to Paul; he voted against it from the start, and with a 30 year consistent Constitutional voting record, people at least KNOW what they're getting.  As another poster stated, he's been saying the same thing for many years, popular or not.  Another HUGE issue for many is our economy, the failing dollar, the $50 trillion unfunded debt, the unbalanced budget and the inflation tax, which is destroying the poor and middle class and that no one except Paul wants to discuss. All the other issues that divide left and right won't matter much if our country is destroyed economically.  Paul understands economics like no other presidential candidate I've heard in my 51 years of life.

Certainly, there are many areas of disagreement, but what I hear from everyone is that Freedom transcends it all.  That and Paul's integrity and honesty trumps a whole bunch of other things.

One thing is for certain: Paul cannot be summed up in bumper sticker slogans so he does not come across well on TV.

You might be interested in this article as an explanation of why many on the left support Paul.

    Ron Paul / Sam Nunn for 2008 ? (0.00 / 0)
Some of Dr. Paul's remedies may be suspect, but his diagnoses are on the mark.
Has anyone suggested Sam Nunn, former Senator from Georgia, as a running mate?
